Pastor: Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your faithful people;
People: and kindle in us the fire of Your love.
Pastor: “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good tidings to the afflicted;
People: He has sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and the opening of the prison to those who are bound.” (Isaiah 61:1)
Pastor: Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your faithful people;
People: and kindle in us the fire of Your love.

Holy Spirit, light divine,

Pastor: If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
People: But if we confess our sins, God who is faithful and just will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Pastor: Let us confess together:
People: Merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed. We have not always followed the guidance of the Holy Spirit, but have instead followed our own desires. We have neglected opportunities to share the love of Christ with those around us, and we have failed to listen to the voice of the Spirit speaking through Your Word. Forgive us, O Lord, and renew us by Your Spirit, that we may live and serve You in newness of life.
Pastor: Almighty God, who sent His Holy Spirit to empower His people for service and mission, has heard your confession and forgives you all your sins. In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven! By the power of the Holy Spirit, you are renewed and strengthened to live as faithful witnesses to the gospel. Go in peace, serve the Lord, and may the Holy Spirit guide you in all truth.
People: Amen.
Come, Holy Ghost, Creator blest,
And make our hearts Your place of rest;
Come with Your grace and heav’nly aid,
And fill the hearts which You have made.

The gifts that from the Spirit flow!
When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
5 Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. 6 When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken. 7 Utterly amazed, they asked: “Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language? 9 Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome 11 (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs—we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!” 12 Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, “What does this mean?”
13 Some, however, made fun of them and said, “They have had too much wine.”
14 Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. 15 These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning! 16 No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:
17 “‘In the last days, God says,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your young men will see visions,
your old men will dream dreams.
18 Even on my servants, both men and women,
I will pour out my Spirit in those days,
and they will prophesy.
19 I will show wonders in the heavens above
and signs on the earth below,
blood and fire and billows of smoke.
20 The sun will be turned to darkness
and the moon to blood
before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.
21 And everyone who calls
on the name of the Lord will be saved.’

“Who will go and work today?

If you cannot speak like angels,
If you cannot preach like Paul,
You can tell the love of Jesus,
You can say He died for all.
If you cannot rouse the wicked
With the judgment’s dread alarms,

To the Savior’s waiting arms.
On Pentecost Sunday, we confess our faith using Luther's Explanation of the third article of the Creed.
Pastor: I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. What does this mean?
People: I believe that I cannot by my own reason or strength believe in Jesus Christ, my Lord, or come to Him; but the Holy Spirit has called me by the Gospel, enlightened me with His gifts, sanctified and kept me in the true faith. In the same way He calls, gathers, enlightens, and sanctifies the whole Christian Church on earth, and keeps it with Jesus Christ in the one true faith. In this Christian Church He daily and richly forgives all my sins and the sins of all believers. On the Last Day He will raise me and all the dead, and give eternal life to me and all believers in Christ.
This is most certainly true.

Gathered in the name and the remembrance of Jesus, we beg You, O Lord, to forgive, renew, and strengthen us with Your Word and Spirit. Grant us faithfully to eat His body and drink His blood as He bids us do in His own testament. Gather us together, we pray, from the ends of the earth to celebrate with all the faithful the marriage feast of the Lamb in His kingdom, which has no end. Graciously receive our prayers; deliver and preserve us. To You alone, O Father, be all glory, honor, and worship, with the Son and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Pastor: May the Holy Spirit, who descended upon the disciples like tongues of fire, continue to inspire and guide us as we go into the world.
May the Spirit's power give you the courage to speak truth, the wisdom to discern right from wrong, and the compassion to love and serve others. May the Spirit's gifts be evident in your life, as you use them to build up the church and bring hope to the world.
May the love of God, the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you always, now and forevermore. Amen.

Father of glory, Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, ascended into the heavens.
He has gone up with a shout and the sound of a trumpet.
Open our lips to sing praises to our King and live confidently in His victory.
Lord, in Your mercy,
LORD Most High, You are awesome, a great King over all the earth.
Stretch our minds and hearts toward Your majestic love.
Lift up our heads and raise our eyes to look forward in the living hope
You have called us in Christ.
Lord, in Your mercy,
Gracious God and heavenly Father, we thank You that You make us new persons in Jesus Christ through grace alone.
We thank You for the Baptism of Zander Paquin, son of Russell and Christina.
Bless and strengthen Zander daily with the gift of Your Holy Spirit.
Unfold to him the riches of Your love. Deepen his faith.

Give mothers love, joy, wisdom, and delight as they raise their children in the uncertainty of this world. Give mothers supportive husbands, families, and friends as they care for the physical and spiritual growth of their children.
For those who remember their mothers in heaven and for those who remember children who have died and pregnancies that miscarried, we pray for peace and comfort.
For the Moms who decided other parents were the best choice for their babies,
to the Moms who adopted those kids and love them fiercely,
we pray for renewed trust in You and Your gracious guidance.
For those who are debating whether to be a mother or not,
we pray for wisdom and trust in You and for the body of Christ to unite in giving support.
For those who knew they never wanted kids,
and the ways they have contributed to our shared world,
we give you thanks for their love and work.
For those who want children but are experiencing infertility,
we pray for miracles.
For those who hurt due to a poor relationship with their mother
or have been abandoned by their mother,
we pray that You would remind them of their identity in Christ,
who loved us so much that He gave His life for us.
And for all who have experienced sacrificial love from mothers and mother-like figures,
we praise You, O Lord, for placing these godly women into our lives
and for the support that they provided and continue to provide to us.
Bless these, and all women, to continue to model the love of Jesus.

we pray for wisdom and trust in You and for the body of Christ to unite in giving support.
For those who knew they never wanted kids,
and the ways they have contributed to our shared world,
we give you thanks for their love and work.
For those who want children but are experiencing infertility,
we pray for miracles.
For those who hurt due to a poor relationship with their mother
or have been abandoned by their mother,
we pray that You would remind them of their identity in Christ,
who loved us so much that He gave His life for us.
And for all who have experienced sacrificial love from mothers and mother-like figures,
